The Building Trades Multi-Craft Core Curriculum (MC3) is the apprenticeship readiness curriculum developed by North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU). The curriculum is delivered in partnership with a local Building Trades Council. This arrangement ensures that YouthBuild participants earning an MC3 credential have a pathway into apprenticeship training sponsored by labor management organizations.

In 2013, YouthBuild grantees began to implement the Construction Plus component, which allows for training in additional in-demand industries beyond construction. Since the inception of Construction Plus, over 81 YouthBuild grantees have integrated this component into their YouthBuild program design.

From 2015 to 2016, YouthBuild programs in Los Angeles County placed 100 individuals in apprenticeships. This coordinated effort included placements for 47 YouthBuild graduates and 53 residents who lived in low-income communities.

Many of the youth we serve in the workforce system may be dealing with mental health or substance use issues in response to trauma from a variety of events, including natural disasters, interaction with the justice system, family troubles and more. An individual’s experience of trauma can affect every area of their life including the ability to focus on education and training, and transition to gainful employment.
