Lesson plans that integrate UDL concepts were designed by Lindsey Good, a former YouthBuild USA Teacher Fellow and instructor at Learning Works in Portland, Maine. The lessons were designed with all variations of YouthBuild learners in mind.

These four (4) Science lessons are focused on the anatomy of skin.  The teacher opted to focus on tattoos and how tattoos illustrate the anatomy of skin.  This approach may generate more interest and relevancy for learners than a typical textbook-driven skin anatomy lesson because of its cultural relevancy and prevalence among YouthBuild learners. 

The lesson plans align with Common Core State Standards and identify:

  • Clear learning goals
  • Potential learning barriers and offer solutions
  • UDL Principles  that will engaged in the detailed lesson activities
